2023 World Luge Championships in Oberhof once again

Snow, cold weather, and the spirit of competition: that’s what one associates with Oberhof, Thuringia. After all, it is Thuringia’s winter sports resort number one. The best of the best go head to head with each other here: biathletes, luge racers, and bobsledders as well as ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes battle for victory. It’s all the more pleasing that Oberhof will also be hosting the World Luge Championships in 2023.

This not only marks Oberhof’s fourth time as the venue hosting the World Luge Championships, but also the site of two world championships. After the bobsledders compete against each other, the Biathlon World Championships will take place on the Rennsteig in February 2023. A wave of sheer excitement and fascination for winter sports will take over during this time. People from all over the world will be watching their favorites compete for the top spots, either in front of the TV or at the event itself, and that’s always a fantastic opportunity for Thuringia to showcase itself.

The state government wants to further expand the infrastructure for tourism and sports to make sure it is up to the task of hosting such an event. A total of 50 million euros is planned to be invested and will be used to renovate and improve the bobsled run as well as many other things. The money will also benefit Oberhof's many clubs with children and youth who love sports. (gro)

Winter is still missing in Oberhof. But already today the city is looking forward to the 2023 World Luge Championships.
