This future tourist magnet is named after Ethiopia’s Danakil region, where two worlds meet – scorching desert and lush jungle. One biotope is dry as dust, while the other has water in excess. Water is the central theme of the exhibition pavilion, which depicts the Danakil’s puzzling dichotomy.
Visitors will learn about animals and plants from both biotopes. They are true survival artists whose life patterns reveal much about existence in desert and jungle environments. A globe will be shown with climate zones marked and a “magic monitor” illustrating sudden changes in weather and cold snaps. “Landscape scanners” that provide information on flora and fauna are among the highlights of the exhibition, in which visitors can become explorers themselves.
The egapark, one of the largest parks in Germany, is together with the Nordpark and the Petersberg one of the three exhibition venues at the upcoming Federal Horticultural Exhibition. Here the exhibition will exemplify how urban leisure and recreation facilities will continue to enrich urban life in the future. (hw)
