With a grant of 13.5 million euros from the Free State of Thuringia, the Battery Innovation and Technology Center (BITC) will begin its work on July 10, 2020 at the Erfurter Kreuz industrial park. The opening marks an important step in expanding and interlinking activities in the field of battery and energy storage technology in Thuringia. As a branch of the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS, the BITC is linked to one of the largest battery research institutes in Germany and benefits from strong connections to industry and business.
We are actively supporting the development of the center into a Europe-wide beacon for energy-efficient and resource-saving battery production on behalf of the Free State of Thuringia: Therefore, we have acquired the building complex for use by the Fraunhofer IKTS. In view of the transformation process in the automotive and energy industry, the BITC will develop solutions for the networked, digitally supported production and quality assurance of battery cells and modules. In doing so, ceramic materials, state-of-the-art sensor technology and non-destructive testing methods will be used.
