From Wartburg castle near Eisenach to the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt - Wherever you go in Thuringia, you are likely to be walking where Luther lived and worked. So what could be more appropriate than to link some of these ‘trails’ and make them available to people to experience in a new way?
The trail, called the ‘Luther Wanderweg’ in German, covers 1,000 kilometers between more than 30 places where the world-changing reformer lived and worked. Much of the trail, marked with posts bearing an ‘L’ is already complete, inviting hikers interested in history to discover more. The last few kilometers of the trail, complete with information points, should be finished by the end of this year, just in time for the 500th anniversary of Luther's nailing up his thesis in 2017.
