Hongkong/Ilmenau - When the Internet Society (ISOC) voted Professor Karlheinz Brandenburg into its ‘Internet Hall of Fame’ in April he was one of 24 persons to be honored in this way in 2014. The society was recognizing Professor Brandenburg’s exceptional efforts and success in the development and expansion of the Internet. As a member of a team of researchers, Professor Brandenburg, who now heads up the Fraunhofer Institute of Digital Media Technology (IDMT) in Ilmenau, helped develop the mp3 standard data format.
Brussels/Jena - The Bio Particle Explorer developed by the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT) in Jena, which can quickly identify germs such as fungi, yeasts and bacteria, won the ‘Innovation Village Award’ (3rd place) in Brussels. The IPHT researches the technology on which the device is based in conjunction with Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Berlin company rap.ID developed the technology through to readiness for the market. The new device will be used mainly in clinical diagnostics, food safety inspections and environmental monitoring.
