Only course of its kind in Germany
Ilmenau - Ilmenau University of Technology launched its new master’s degree in “Electrochemistry and Metal Finishing” in time for the 2013/2014 winter semester. The only course of its kind in the country, this major enables students with a bachelor’s degree to gain a Master of Science in four semesters while qualifying as experts in galvano- and surface finishing. The university conceived the skills-based training course in close cooperation with the German Association of Surface Finishing and numerous representatives from within the industry.
New network established
Erfurt - More than 40 Thuringian companies and scientists have formed the Thuringian Energies’ Network (Thüringer-Energien-Netzwerk, or ThEEN). Set up in September, the network exists primarily to facilitate the transition to even greater use of renewable energy in the region and develop further key competencies in renewable energy for local companies.
A further goal is for ThEEN to become a platform for business people, researchers, representatives from regional authorities and politicians to exchange and discuss new ideas in the field of renewable energy. At the helm as chairman is Professor Dieter Sell, who also heads up the Thuringian Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA).
