Friedrichshafen. Horten Aircraft GmbH presented a global innovation at this year’s Aero aviation trade fair in Friedrichshafen. The Thuringian aircraft company developed a new flying wing with its prototype called HORTEN HX-2, which due to its low weight and its very good aerodynamics, deriving from its special composition, means that it can fly much faster and farther than comparable aircraft with a fuselage. The plane’s flexible design is also engineered for the integration of new drive technologies in the future. There are also extensive plans for further developments, such as unmanned or multi-seated versions of the current prototype. Ideas for an airplane without a fuselage have existed since the beginning of the 20th century. Hugo Junkers patented the flying wing model which Reimar Horten, the aircraft designer after whom today’s Horten Aircraft GmbH is named, is decisively continuing to develop.
