Tourism in the digital era

ThüCAT, stands for Thuringian Content Architecture Tourism, a new comprehensive database that the state of Thuringia wants to use to bundle its tourism offerings and make them even more visible in the future.

The new database, which will provide companies, regions, cities, and recreational facilities with digital presentation options as well as first-hand tourist information from a single source in the future, was rolled out for the first time at the 8th Thuringian Tourism Day. The database is currently being developed by Thüringer Tourismus GmbH (TTG). “In order to better position Thuringia as a vacation destination in Germany in the face of very fierce competitive environment, we not only need to have high-quality products but we also have to make them more digitally visible,” stressed the Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee. The open platform ThüCAT will enable all players involved in the tourism industry to store, maintain, and manage their data in a shared system. Data, such as picture, articles, videos, or contacts, can then be presented on different channels or used by other tourist sites. Up-to-date and high-quality relevant information can be provided to guests by also linking the requested data to other information such as offers, tours, etc. ThüCAT should be completed and available for use by the start of 2020.
